- Book West Somerset Railway seats in advance in peak season. The harbour at Watchet, 8 miles east, is a short detour with a good maritime museum. The cliff railway fills quickly on summer weekends. Walk down to Lynmouth via the zigzag path to avoid the queue, and ride back up. Lundy Island ferry runs spring to autumn only and books out in July and August. Reserve via the Landmark Trust website at least a week ahead. The village car park costs £10+ in summer and fills by 9am. Park at the top of the village and walk down to the beach in under 10 minutes. The Pannier Market opens Tues, Fri and Sat mornings. Bikes hire from several shops near Long Bridge if you want an hour on the Tarka Trail. The Tarr Steps car park holds roughly 30 cars and fills by mid-morning in July and August. Arrive before 10am or after 4pm to find a space. Allow 50 minutes minimum from Dulverton via the B3223 and B3224 through Exford. Satnavs sometimes route via narrow unclassified lanes: stick to B-roads.
