- Steep Hill is exactly as steep as it sounds. Walk down from the cathedral first, then browse the shops on the way back up. The Westgate car park is closest to the cathedral quarter. Burghley House is open April to October. Buy tickets online in advance on busy summer weekends. The Friday market (90+ stalls) is the best weekly market between Nottingham and Cambridge. Hire bikes at the water sports centre for the full 23-mile Rutland Water circuit, or walk the shorter Barnsdale section for the best osprey views. Book the Rutland Belle cruise in advance in summer. Belton House (National Trust) is open April to October. Woolsthorpe Manor is open year round but has limited hours; check ahead. Both are within 10 minutes of the town centre by car. Markets run Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. The St James' tower climb (198 steps, panoramic views) runs in summer on selected dates; check the church website before visiting. Take the A158 west from Louth through the Wolds for a final scenic stretch before joining the A15 south into Lincoln. The Brayford Pool waterfront is a good spot for a final coffee.
