RoutebookThe E10 through Lofoten is one of the world's great scenic drives: 129 kilometres threading between fishing villages on a chain of islands north of the Arctic Circle, where mountains drop almost vertically into the sea. The route begins inland at Narvik, the fjord city where Allied forces fought in 1940, before crossing onto the islands and following the coast south-west through Svolvær, Henningsvær and Reine to the end of the road at Å. Along the way, red and yellow rorbu cabins dot every harbour, white-sand beaches defy their latitude with turquoise water, and from late May to mid-July the sun never sets. No single driving leg takes more than three hours, but every viewpoint, lay-by and side road rewards slowing down.

Reinebringen Summit Viewpoint
The 448m climb above Reine via 1,978 wooden steps rewards with the most iconic panorama in all of Lofoten: a bird's-eye view of red rorbu, turquoise inlets and serrated peaks stretching to the horizon. Allow two hours return and start early to beat the crowds.

Trollfjord Sea Eagle Safari
A RIB boat out of Svolvær pushes into a narrow gorge barely 100m wide, its walls rising 1,000 metres above the water. White-tailed sea eagles nest in the crags and swoop low over the boat in summer. Book the early morning slot for the best light and fewest other vessels.
Beach
Midnight Sun on Uttakleiv Beach
From late May to mid-July the sun never sets over Lofoten. Head to Uttakleiv or Haukland beach after dinner and watch golden light play across white sand and Arctic peaks. The experience is one of the most surreal in all of Norway.
Culture
Lofotr Viking Museum, Borg
The largest Viking chieftain's longhouse ever found, reconstructed in full scale on a ridge above the islands near Leknes. Craft demonstrations, a replica longship in a boathouse, and sweeping fjord views make this one of Norway's best open-air museums.

E10 Scenic Drive: Svolvær to Å
The southern 100 km of the E10 is one of the most spectacular stretches of road in Europe, threading through tunnels and over bridges with dramatic peaks rising from the sea on both sides. Every few kilometres reveals another postcard fishing village.
