Time the drive in for golden hour over the harbour and the footbridge. Drive the Mount Battie auto road for the easy view, or hike the steeper Mount Battie Trail from Megunticook Street. The bridge observatory and Fort Knox share one ticket. The last elevator up runs well before closing, so arrive by mid-afternoon. A Cadillac Summit Road vehicle reservation is required from mid-May to mid-October. Book it on recreation.gov well ahead.
