- Buy a 48-hour or longer Rover bus ticket on arrival; it covers nearly all the island bus travel on this loop. The Cowes Floating Bridge chain ferry links Cowes and East Cowes in minutes; Osborne House is a short walk or bus from the East Cowes side. The open-top Needles Breezer (route 7) runs roughly March to early November; outside that, use the year-round service to Alum Bay. Take the Island Coaster (route 12) from the west; it is one of the most scenic bus rides on the island. The Island Line train links Shanklin, Sandown and Ryde; change at Smallbrook Junction for the heritage Steam Railway. Check the FastCat or hovercraft timetable and allow a buffer; the pier head train connects directly to the ferry.
