- Collect the car here and pre-book a Multnomah Falls timed-use permit for summer mornings before you leave town. Park once near Bridal Veil and walk or shuttle between falls in summer. Lots fill by mid-morning, so start early. The Bridge of the Gods is a narrow metal-grate toll bridge, so cross it slowly. Bonneville Dam's fish ladders are free. Watch the windsurfers from the Event Site, then drive the 35-mile Fruit Loop. Stands are busiest at harvest, August to October. US-26 and OR-35 can need traction tyres or chains outside summer. Check Oregon TripCheck for conditions before you climb. Time the final leg for daylight; the mountain stretch of US-26 is slow in fog or low evening sun.
