- Most shops and fuel stations close on Sundays on Lewis and Harris. Stock up on provisions before Sunday if that day falls in your Lewis stay. Luskentyre car park fills by 10am in July and August. Arrive before 9am or after 5pm. The Scalpay causeway east of Tarbert leads to a scenic lighthouse walk worth a half-day. Book the Leverburgh to Berneray ferry well in advance for July and August. The crossing runs twice daily and sells out quickly with vehicle reservations. Fill up at Lochboisdale service station before heading to Eriskay. There is no fuel on Eriskay. The Barra ferry departs from Ardmhor, Eriskay, twice daily in summer. Check Loganair's Barra schedule before driving to Traigh Mhor. Arrivals are tidal and weather-dependent. Ferries back to the mainland go to Oban (5 hours) or Mallaig in summer.
